ABOUT

Vanetta Wood is a mixed media artist who exploits the energy and power of line to create dynamic drawings that highlight movement. Woods’ extensive studies in visual art and dance have yielded a body of work that is as diverse as the artists’ life experiences.
Vanetta studied at Cleveland Institute of Art, Moore College of Art & Design, and The University of the Arts. Vanetta’s work marries expressive writing with visual imagery. It is demonstrative of an exploration of the trajectory of line and experimentation of various media including oil, watercolor, acrylic, marker, pen, colored pencil, fabric, and embroidery.
In addition to creating art, Wood takes pride in having established a long standing career as an arts educator, with over two decades of dedication to teaching both visual art and dance.
In more recent work, Vanetta, focuses on paying homage to everyday people through portraiture. The series, Make My Picture, evokes the nostalgia of creating as a child; the searching, the curiosity, the immediacy, and the freedom. Make My Picture is a project dedicated to releasing inhibition and giving in to the media in pursuit of an authentic artistic voice.
